Main Reading: Leviticus 19–20
Theme: Holiness in Everyday Life
Messianic Focus: Yeshua Fulfills Holiness Through Love, Justice, and the Spirit
🌿 Overview
This portion begins with one of the most central commands in all of Scripture:
קְדֹשִׁים תִּהְיוּ — Kedoshim Tihyu
- Pronounced: keh-doh-SHEEM tee-HYOO
- Meaning: “You shall be holy.”
The word kedoshim (קְדֹשִׁים) comes from:
קָדוֹשׁ — Kadosh — “holy, set apart”
Holiness here is not ritual alone — it is ethical, relational, and moral.
Leviticus 19 shows that holiness is expressed in:
- compassion
- justice
- honesty
- sexual purity
- family honor
- generosity
- love
This portion is sometimes called “the heart of the Torah.”

🌿 Hebrew Notes (Integrated)
1. Kadosh — קָדוֹשׁ — “holy, set apart”
Holiness means being distinct from the world and aligned with God’s character.
2. Kedoshim — קְדֹשִׁים — “holy ones”
This refers not to angels, but God’s people.
3. Ahavta — וְאָהַבְתָּ — “You shall love”
- Pronounced: ve-AH-hav-ta
Appears in the command:
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
4. Mishpat — מִשְׁפָּט — “justice”
God cares deeply about fairness, honesty, and righteousness.
🌿 Messianic Connection
Yeshua describes this portion as containing the second greatest commandment:
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
(Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:39)
He also says that this — alongside loving God — is the foundation of all Torah and the Prophets (Matthew 22:40).
Yeshua fulfills Kedoshim by:
- embodying perfect holiness
- teaching the heart behind the commandments
- empowering believers by the Holy Spirit to walk in holiness
- restoring the image of God in us
- revealing that holiness is rooted in love
Paul echoes this in Galatians 5 — holiness is the fruit of the Spirit.
🌿 Moral and Spiritual Application
Holiness is not separation from people — it is separation from sin so we can love others rightly.
This portion teaches:
- Honor your parents
- Care for the poor
- Be honest in business
- Reject gossip and slander
- Be fair and impartial
- Avoid occult practices
- Live sexually pure
- Guard your heart from idolatry
- Love your neighbor as yourself
Holiness is seen in how we live daily life, not just in ritual.
